Filbert Steps, 2006. If by chance I get over to North Beach, one of my favorite places to spend a few hours are the Filbert Steps. I love the steep climb, the creak of the wooden steps under my feet and just getting lost in an oasis of gardens, flowers and being surrounded by some of the oldest homes in San Francisco. Sometimes I may get an added bonus and the parrots that call the hillside home will serenade me as they fly over squawking and crying in a riot of reds, greens and yellows.
