Why do We Mourn?, 2004. The title here was taken from an epitaph on a tomb in Lafayette Cemetery in New Orleans. The grave is that of a firefighter for the city who died at the age of 36 presumably from a fire, although it could have been from an outbreak of Yellow Fever that year. Lafayette is one of my favorite small cemeteries and one that has given me some of my favorite shots and it also marks where I got my start in photography back in 2004.
